Belliure, an organisation located near Calpe on the south-east coast of Spain have gained a reputation for building high quality composite cruising yachts. By employing semiproduction moulding systems together with high performance materials such as Dupont's Kevlar and resins from SP Systems, cruising yachts between 40 and 120 feet in length can be produced at competitive prices. 'Thalassi' was Belliure's first large yacht and her structural integrity during her first major voyage, a circumnavigation of South America by way of Cape Horn has been excellent promotion of the Spanish yard's capabilities.
The tape measure and plumb-bob, instruments which have been around for 2000 years, still have an important role to play, but modern tools like the laser can speed up the process with much greater accuracy.
