Some areas of the yachts can be difficult to visualise or gain an accurate sense of the available space by way of drawings or even with CAD modelling. Frequently full scale plywood mock-ups are recommended to enable the client and builders to more easily understand the proposals.

The cockpit area and steering station of 'Acharné' gained enormously from the use of a full size model. The clients, Geoffrey and Doreen Simmonds were able to call for seating dimensions and floor area levels that ensured optimum comfort and security without restricting the sense of being involved with the sailing environment they wanted to experience.
